Ever since I got home, I've been sketching and plotting and planning and doing. I don't know why or how but I've kinda rediscovered my love for my house. Back in the day when we bought our first house I was pretty OCD about how clean my house had to be and decorating and redecorating all the time for every holiday and season. I loved it. I drove my husband crazy with my middle of the night rearranging of furniture while he was at work. But I couldn't help myself. I simply loved to decorate and play with my house.
Fast forward 11 years, 2 more kids, a home business and a new house later and I had lost it. I kind of forgot all about the things that make me happy. Now I'm not saying I was unhappy all those years, I just kind of went with the motion of the ocean rather than making my own waves. I was tired, stressed and angry. I didn't want to work on my house, I buried myself in learning new crafts and spent a lot of time with my computer. But for some reason (not sure if it was the discovery of some great home improvement blogs, relearning my love of really cleaning at my parents house or if I am finally feeling like me again), I am back and back in the action.
I literally came home and started pulling things out of cabinets and drawers and reorganizing. I know that those of you that really know me know that I am constantly reorganizing the craft house but that's different. My house is a whole different story. So you might be surprised (or not) that I have junk drawers and bins and totes everywhere. But I'm over that and it's time for this house to get its act together and for me to get mine together too.
So right now my living room is covered in unmatched sheets and towels that need to be turned into rags and bath mats. However, my sketch book is full of the plans for this house and Andy and I have hashed out what we want to do and have made a plan to actually get it done.
We also have 4 birthdays and school shopping to do this month so we decided to start with some projects we could do for relatively nothing. So last night we went and picked a truckload of rocks to redo our front walk. It is cracked and lacks all kind of character and basically no one uses it ever so it seemed like the place to begin. Today we picked up a couple of rolls of edging ($12) and a couple truckloads of sand and went to work. Now we're about to go grab some more rocks because we way underestimated the amount we would need. But in the meantime, we have a half finished walk and I am in heaven with dirt under my nails and paint on my fingers!
PS. Mom you will be so proud to know that while Andy went to get the second load of sand, I busted out the white paint and have painted a first coat of paint on the dining room window...yep....the entire window! LOL! More on that story later!
